  A Buddhist monk Eisai (1141~1215) brought back tea from China and spread the “tea culture” in Japan. It is said to be the beginning of “tea ceremony”. Eisai, a founder of Rinzai sect of Zen in Japan, wrote the first book specialized on the topic of tea. Crawling into the tea room through a tiny entrance space as well as sitting upright straight in Japanese way must have been a bit of a challenge for our foreign guests. Authentic Cha-kaiseki (a five-course traditional cuisine) and Tea Ceremony in Tokyo We welcomed a group of Bolivians and their Japanese friends as our guests today. It was a wonderful gathering thanks to the sophisticated and cheerful ambiance they brought into the tea room. Our guests enjoyed today’s formal meal. They showed a keen interest in the ingredients and preparations so our chef explained the menu in detail. You could really see the true spirit of the tea ceremony in this interaction.
