We welcomed twin sisters from Israel today at our Wagashi making workshop. They decided to spend some time in Japan before going off to college. Their classes will start next month and they will major in Biology at the same college. The sisters seem to get along well and were smart and pleasant to talk to. Chrysanthemum represents the royal family in Japan. It is used as the design on the buttons for the members of parliament as well as on the cover of Japanese passports. It is considered as a noble flower and used at special events. Wagashi that resemble the seasonal flowers are often served at tea ceremony. This season, it is the chrysanthemum. Our workshop on making Japanese sweets has been rated high by the guests due to its authentic style. This summer season, guests can choose two themes from fireworks, rose, sunflower or Nadeshiko (a Pink). The instructor will walk you through step by step to create these beautiful pieces.       They are “cherry blossom” and bird themed Jo-namagashi. Jo-namagashi refers to the highest quality Japanese sweets used in tea ceremonies. Guests can participate in the step-by-step process of preparing the sweets (from kneading the dough, coloring, forming the shape and designing sweets). Spring recipes have arrived for the wagashi making class!


  We welcomed a siblings group from Australia yesterday at our “Wagashi making with Uji matcha tea” workshop. They made jokes on each other but they get along so well. Such a wonderful team! We ended up with lots of laughs and sticky doughs on their hands! They seem to have enjoyed making wagashi especially the peony bud on which they sprinkled dry mochi powder mimicking snow. Here comes snowmen.


We welcomed very wonderful guests who came from Bangkok, Thailand in our tour “Enjoy Wagashi Making with Uji Matcha Tea in Tokyo” today. They are a married couple. They are aiming to provide Wagashi (Japanese sweets) at their Japanese restaurant in Bangkok. So, we provided information to buy ingredients and cooking utensils in addition to a Wagashi lesson.
