Enjoy Japanese Traditional Culture (Temple Festival and Tea Ceremony) in Meguro*, Tokyo

Thank you very much for your interest in this tour.

This tour allows you to fully experience Japanese traditional culture in Tokyo’s Meguro district, which is easily accessible from popular tourist spots like Shibuya, Ebisu and Shinagawa.

In the first half, you will enjoy walking around Meguro Fudoson, one of the Goshiki Fudo (Five-Color Fudo Myo-o deity) temples set up to protect Edo Castle. You will enjoy the traditional festival held on the 28th day of the month, when memorial services for the gods are held.

In the second half, you will experience a genuine tea ceremony. You will participate in a formal ceremony, learn manners required of the guest, and experience making your own bowl of matcha.

Experience “Meguro Fudoson” Temple Festival

  • You will enjoy walking around a Japanese temple. We will stop by “Meguro Fudoson” temple festival, held on the 28th of each month.
  • Experience street stalls at the temple fair (traditional game, Oden (typical local food from street stalls))

Experience “Tea Ceremony”, a traditional culture representing Japan

  • We will move to the tea ceremony room at Tea master’s home and experience traditional Japanese culture “tea ceremony”. You will experience usucha (matcha/thin tea making procedure) in a real way.

  • Photos taken during tea ceremony are provided later over the internet.



  • You will need to take your shoes off in the tea room, so please wear socks or stockings.
  • The tea ceremony room is a sacred space. Please note the following:
    • Please wear tops with sleeves (short sleeves are OK) that cover the shoulders.
    • Please make sure you wear something that will cover your knees. Do not wear shorts or mini-skirts. Any fabric is acceptable.
