Enjoy cooling down using all of your senses, in the midst of summer in Japan. In May, a hearth is replaced by a portable brazier (furo, 風炉) and the equipment are arranged for summer. During the cold months, a hearth is placed close to the guests where as in summer, the heat is positioned far from the guests. “Keep it cool in summer and warm in winter so that the host can offer tea to the guests in the best possible condition” is the principle passed on from our predecessors. We invite you to feel the coolness with […]

A hint of early summer enjoyed in our tea ceremony ...

We welcomed a wonderful group from LVMH Fashion Group China with our interpreter, a Mandarin Chinese speaker. They chose Mat-Cha-Doh to host their VICs when they were in Tokyo. They were in Japan for the first time to visit their flagship shop, CELINE GINZA SIX. They joined the Authentic Cha-kaiseki and Tea Ceremony as a traditional Japanese cultural experience. Spring as the theme of tea ceremony

Cherry trees are getting ready to bloom very soon. In a couple of weeks, we’ll be enjoying the flowers along the park that leads us to our tea instructor’s house in Toritsudaigaku. We had a mother and two daughters at our casual tea ceremony workshop today. They are from Salt Lake City, Utah (USA). The daughters tried sitting in the Japanese formal way, which even we Japanese have hard time doing. The sweets were in the shape of cherry blossoms and there was a hint of Spring at every corner of the room. Thank you ladies for your interest and […]

It is still cold but there is a hint of spring in the air. We had two couples at our tea ceremony workshop yesterday at Toritsu-daigaku. One couple is from India and another from Italy. The tea bowls, utensils and the setup of the tea room had the theme of spring. Some of the tea bowls had motifs of the girls festival “hinamatsuri”. They did amazing job in preparing matcha tea themselves although it was their first time doing so. It was fun visiting Japanese sweets shop after the tea ceremony as it was decorated beautifully with cherry blossoms […]
